Terms of Service

These terms apply to your use of DracoLanguage, a Chrome extension for learning languages with YouTube and Netflix videos, and of this website, made by Spiegelei Studio (see the Impressum at the bottom of this page for our company details). By installing or using the extension or creating an account, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use DracoLanguage.

1. The extension

DracoLanguage adds an interactive transcript to YouTube and Netflix video pages, with translations and, for Chinese, pinyin. These features are free and do not require an account. Word lookups and saved items require a free account. AI explanations of sentences and selected text are part of DracoLanguage Premium. Support for Netflix is in beta.

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the extension for your own non-commercial learning.

2. YouTube and Netflix

DracoLanguage works with videos and subtitles provided by YouTube and Netflix. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by YouTube, Google, or Netflix. Your use of these services remains subject to their own terms; for Netflix you need your own subscription. The extension does not download or copy videos, and you may not use it to do so. Because these services can change their websites at any time, features of the extension may stop working for some videos or for a while until we adapt it.

3. Accounts

Word lookups, saved items, and Premium require an account. You must provide a valid email address or sign in with Google, keep your sign-in details confidential, and not share your account with others. If you are under 16, you may only create an account with the permission of a parent or guardian.

You can delete your account at any time in the extension. Deleting your account does not cancel a running subscription.

4. Premium subscription

DracoLanguage Premium is an automatically renewing subscription, offered monthly (currently $4.49) or yearly (currently $24.99). The price in your local currency, including any applicable taxes, is shown at checkout before you subscribe.

• Merchant of Record. Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. Paddle's buyer terms apply to the purchase in addition to these terms.
• Renewal. The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period for the same period and is charged to the payment method you used, unless you cancel before the end of the current period.
• Cancelling. You can cancel at any time through the link in the receipt email from Paddle, or by writing to us. Premium stays active until the end of the period you have paid for.
• Free trial. If a free trial is offered, it turns into a paid subscription when the trial ends unless you cancel before then.
• Price changes. If the price of your subscription changes, we will tell you by email in advance, and you can cancel before the new price applies.

5. Usage limits

AI explanations cause costs for us with third-party providers. To keep the service affordable and protect it from abuse, Premium includes up to 1,500 explanations per calendar month, which resets on the 1st of each month. Explanations that are served from our cache do not count. Unused explanations do not carry over to the next month. Word lookups are limited per day, with a higher limit for Premium. We may adjust the limits, but we will not reduce them during a period you have already paid for.

6. AI explanations

Explanations, translations, and vocabulary notes are generated automatically. They are learning aids and may be incomplete or wrong. Subtitles, especially automatic ones, can also contain errors. Do not rely on these results where accuracy matters, for example for exams, official documents, or medical, legal, or financial decisions.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• use DracoLanguage in a way that breaks the law or infringes the rights of others;
• send text that contains personal or confidential information for AI explanation;
• access our servers other than through the extension, automate requests, or try to get around usage limits or technical protections;
• copy, resell, or redistribute the extension or its results, or decompile or reverse engineer it, except where the law expressly allows it.

If you seriously or repeatedly break these rules, we may suspend or close your account.

8. Intellectual property

The extension and this website belong to Spiegelei Studio and are protected by copyright. Videos and subtitles belong to their respective owners. Apart from the licence in section 1, no rights are transferred to you.

9. Availability and changes

We work to keep DracoLanguage available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. Features that depend on YouTube, Netflix, or other third-party services may be temporarily unavailable. We may change, add, or remove features. If we permanently discontinue Premium, your statutory rights remain unaffected.

10. Liability

We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body, or health, and under mandatory statutory provisions such as the German Product Liability Act.

In cases of slight negligence, we are liable only for breaches of essential contractual obligations, meaning obligations whose fulfilment makes the proper performance of the contract possible in the first place and on which you may regularly rely. In these cases our liability is limited to the foreseeable damage typical for this kind of contract. Any further liability is excluded.

How we handle your data is described in our Privacy Policy.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when features or legal requirements change. We will revise the "last updated" date above and, for significant changes, inform you by email or in the extension. Changes do not apply retroactively to a subscription period you have already paid for.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the Federal Republic of Germany. If you are a consumer, the mandatory consumer protection provisions of the country in which you normally live continue to apply. We are neither obliged nor willing to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
